Royal Moroccan Football Federation suspend all footballing activities

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) have become the second African country to suspend all football related activities in the country to the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The FRMF had previously announced that all football activities will continue but behind closed doors.

Now, 24 hours after the total of confirmed coronavirus cases reached seven in Morocco, the country’s football governing body have decided to suspend all competitions until further notice.

This comes also after FIFA’s recommendation to all countries and confederations to suspend their footballing activities for safety reasons.

Morocco become the second country in the continent to temporarily suspend activities after DR Congo who will interrupt their local competitions for 30 days starting Monday.

Africa is yet to be considered as a high-risk area according to the World Health Organization, with 158 cases as of Friday night. Therefore no drastic measures have yet been taken in other countries with only Egypt and Algeria deciding to play behind closed doors.

After having postponed the 2021 AFCON qualifiers set to take place during the international break in late March, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) are considering to also postpone the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) taking place in Cameroon between April 4 and 25.

These cancelations aren’t only taking place in Africa as both the Asian and South American confederations have postponed their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
