Rugby Debuts At The Chief Of Defence Staff Schools Sports Clinic By Akeem Busari The Chief Of Defence Staff Sports Clinic kicked off Wednesday 9th May 2018, at the Sani Abacha Barracks Sports Complex with four sports on display namely Football, Basketball, Volleyball, and the new entrant Rugby. And with over 1200 kids selected from all the Nigerian Armed Forces Schools in Abuja, bsn sports reports. Each of the four selected sports were given over 200 children drawn from all the schools both primary and secondary, boys and girls to introduce their respective sports for the three day sports clinic which will end on Friday 11 May 2018. And there would be presentation of certificates to the five best campers from each sports, and certificate of participation to all the children. According to the Technical Director of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation, Ntiense Williams, who is physically on ground running the 3 days program with his rugby team, "This is a welcome development for the beautiful game of rugby in Nigeria through the Armed Forces and on behalf of the President of the Rugby Federation Mr Kelechi Mbagwu, we will like to sincerely thank the organisers for including the game of rugby into their program, " he said. " This is a wonderful innovation from the Armed Forces in Nigeria to introduce rugby to the grassroot and eventually move on to the main Armed Forces Personnel, " he added. It could be recalled that the NRFF board led by its President Mr Kelechi Mbagwu paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff and the Inspector General of Police on the 21 March 2018, soliciting for cooperation in the development of rugby in the Nigerian Armed Forces and other Para Military institutions. And that historic visit has started yielding positive result with the inclusion of rugby in this year's edition of the Chief of Defence Staff Schools Sports Clinic. Meanwhile, the NRFF will be conducting a 5 Days Coaching / Train The Trainers Course for their 50 selected personnel in two months time. It is also expected that rugby will be introduced into the next Armed Forces Games, just as it has already been introduced into the Nigerian Police Games. Presently rugby teams are springing out from the Army in Jaji - Kaduna and the Police in Lagos and Kano respectively being involved in the ongoing 2018 National Rugby League.
