In spite of defeat suffered by Nigeria in their first match of 2018 FIFA World cup in Russia,Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) board members appear to be unperturbed with need to go beyond preliminary round.
According to a source they are busy negotiating their re-election even in Russia, while they are expected to be pre-occupied with Super Eagles’ success at each stage of the Mundial.
It will be recalled that Eagles lost 2-0 against Croatia in their first Group D match on Saturday ahead of likely tougher encounters with Iceland and Argenitna on Friday and June 26 respectively.
The source added that in spite of $2m(N720m) paid to NFF by FIFA and undisclosed amount generated through various sponsorship, state Football Association (FA) chairmen are not considered for the quadrennial world event instead, family members their girl friends are being given priority for the trip to Russia.
For NFF board to come out and say they have paid additional $800,000 required to settle outstanding for qualifying matches, keen observers of trends in the Glass House are already guessing what the board must have made from Coca Cola, Aiteo and other sponsors of football in the country.
Those wondering why most protocol staff of the federation are left behind in Nigeria are surprised, when they see girl friends and relatives of board members handling such task in Russia.
Amaju Pinnick led NFF has thrown caution to the wind in their desperation to return to office and has been taunting the Presidency and the Ministry, with the hope of provoking their interference in NFF politics so that FIFA can ban Nigeria.
How best can one describe a situation where Chairman and members of Technical Committee; Director (Technical) and other relevant Personnels are not involved in World Cup activities, they are stationed in St. Petersburg while Shehu Dikko, abandoned his primary role in the League Management Company(LMC) just to be championing Eagles in Russia.
Two Committee members that raised point of order on this anomalies especially, leaving the congressmen behind, are being threatened with suspension.
The former Chairman,Technical Committee, Barrister Chris Green who was adjudged to have performed meritoriously, is still idle in the board with no new responsibility.
Otunba Sunday Dele-Ajayi, current Chairman, Audit and some other committees have not been allowed to perform their statutory functions.
The tenure of the current board will end in a couple of weeks and there will be room for another election.
