Sahel Games: Nigeria, 7 Others Converge To Promote Peace As SWAN Gets Big Role By Our Reporter The President of the Organization of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA), Brig.Gen. Maikano Abdullahi says he is ready to work with the Sports Writers' Association of Nigeria, SWAN FCT Chapter to promote the activities of the 2021 Sahel Games. He stated this when the ExCo of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN FCT Chapter paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Mambilla Barracks, Abuja. He noted that eight countries ravaged by insurgency will converge in Nigeria in October to compete in three sports namely: football, marathon, and golf. His words, "The aim of the games is for peace, stability and cohension. When we come together, we are sending a message that we can work together. We want to project peace and solidarity and not war. Everyone competiting is a winner, even though we want to send a message across, we will still give them their medals." Earlier, the chairman of SWAN, Mr. Bunmi Haruna said the association would like to project the activities of the military, in Nigeria, Africa and across the world. According to him, "We want to partner with you especially during these games, we want to project Nigeria to the world through the Sahel Games and we are optimistic that the game will be a huge success." Nigeria, Cameron, Niger, Burkina-Faso, Mali, Libya, Chad, and Senegal are expected to take part in the games.
