Samuel Kalu will be sanctioned by his French Ligue 1 club, Girondins de Bordeaux, for returning late to the club late from holidays in Nigeria, according to a report on Girondis33.com.

Kalu rejoined his teammates in training on Monday after spending almost a week in his homeland due to passport problems.

The Nigeria international missed last weekend’s Coupe de France clash against Le Mans due to his failure to return on time from mid-season break.

“Each player who tries to fake things or who does not have adequate responsibility towards the club must be punished,” Bordeaux manager Paulo Sousa was quoted on Girondis33.com.

It remains to be seen if he will play a part against Olympique Lyon on Saturday as there are also reports that Kalu has been demoted to train with Bordeaux’s second team.

Kalu has scored once and provided two assists on 18 games this season for Bordeaux
