  Senegal, Mali Qualify For U17 AFCON By Admin Senegal and Mali will represent West Zone ‘A’ at the Total U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled in Morocco next March. In the final match played on Saturday, hosts Senegal beat Mali 2-0 to claim top place of the qualifying tournament that took place in Thiès (western Senegal) from 5 to 13 February 2021. In addition to the zonal trophy, Senegal won all individual awards, as Mamadou Gning was selected the tournament’s best player, Ibou Sané was top scorer with three goals, Aliounne Diop was the best goalkeeper, and Malick Daff as best coach. In the road to the final, Mali defeated Guinea Bissau 5-0, before beating Mauritania 5-1 in the semi-final. While Senegal won Mauritania in the group A and Guinea Bissau in the semis with the same score 4-0. Teams from The Gambia and Sierra Leone were disqualified after playing their first matches of the competition because of non-compliant MRI tests.
