Newly appointed Glasgow Rangers manager, Giovanni Van Bronckhorst, has described Nigeria's Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey as a modern-day defender, BSNsports.com.ng can report.
Last month, the Dutchman replaced Steven Gerrard who joined the English premier league side Aston Villa and the 21-year-old has played every game since his arrival.
Speaking Scotland news outlet, GVB spoke highly of Bassey who was invited to the Super Eagles team during the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier.
“I haven’t seen him play a lot as a left-back. I saw some footage, but in my five games here, he has played as a central defender. I’m really happy with him; he’s got everything for a modern defender.
" He’s very quick, he’s good in the air, physically he’s very strong, and we are just working with him on his build-up play.
“He’s a very good kid, he’s open to learning new things, to be better every game.”
Bassey is becoming a key player," he said.
