By Kehinde Osagiede
The Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, on Monday inspected some sports facilities including the ongoing reconstruction work at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium which will serve as the main venue, ahead of the 2020 National Sports festival to be staged in Benin.
The Minister told newsmen at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium that he was satisfied with the level of work done ahead of the 2020 games Edo bided to host in Benin.
He commended the state government for putting something good on ground that other states could use for sports tourism.
"My visit to Benin today is not a waste of time.
The Governor Mr Godwin Obaseki told me while biding to host 2020 national sports festival that his interest to host Nigeria was not a political statement.
"Now is convincing me more. The facilities I saw on ground if completed would reposition Edo as the number one sporting state. Edo government is doing more than I expected
"The main bowl facilities are being upgraded to modern standard, and I believe that other sports sectors will as well be upgraded to international standard before the completion of the Ogbemudia Stadium, " He said.
He called on the contractor in charge of the reconstruction work at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, to ensure he didn't compromise the use of standard materials.
In his remarks, the Project Manager,Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Ltd,
Femi James assured that the first phase of the work would be ready in April while the second phase would be ready by August.
