Sports Ministry Acquires Equipments To Aid Athletes Performance in 2019.

In order to propels the performance of Nigeria Athletes in 2019 and beyond, the Sports Ministry under Barrister Solomon Dalung has acquired equipments for high performance centre.

Sports Ministry established the centre to serve as training venue for Nigerian athletes preparing for international engagements like the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games or the All Africa Games, the project has since been abandoned due to lack of funds to manage the centre.

According to Dalung " Well, when I came on board, i embark on inspection of facilities here in the National stadium.

"I discovered that one, as a leading country in Africa we do not have an High performance center and in contemporary sports without high performance centre you cannot make mass progress, " Dalung told www.bsnsports.com.ng.

"Sports is science and you need science of sports to make progress and sports medicine is very key components of the high performance.

"We make an attempt to revive a contract we have with South Africa, which in the past, the past government released N3 billion to work on the high performance centre and nothing was done.

"The high performance medical centre as its nothing was there, so I thought that without resources we cannot be lament, so we make progress to acquire this important equipment because we need them to key into modern sports science." The minister said.

"The two equipments we have acquired today are parts of effort to introduce sports science athletes to improve their performance."

"So in this year budget we include fund we will use to purchase this equipment and more are coming this year."

"We are still working to locate the clinic into a permanent place and equipped it .

"Its embarrassing that when we are preparing for international competition and we are still using equipment, we used when we are young, its quite embarassing we are trying to overcome this challenges, that is why we acquired this equipments, " he concluded.
