Substitute Cyriel Dessers Rescue Secures A Point For Feyenoord Against FC Groningen Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers came off the bench to rescue a point for Feyenoord as they failed beat FC Groningen on Saturday evening, BSNSports.com.ng reports. The introduction of Cyriel Dessers and Patrik Walemark started Feyenoord's glue attempt after the break, but Dessers managed to finish only one of three huge opportunities: 1-1. The second loss of points in a row for number three Feyenoord could mean that PSV will run to six points on Sunday as Groningen retains tenth place after the hard-fought point. Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Fredrik Aursnes returned to the starting eleven for Feyenoord, while Lutsharel Geertruida was passed by Marcus Pedersen. Groningen started brutally with Jörgen Strand Larsen, who with a simple movement outplayed Marcos Senesi and fired at Justin Bijlow from a difficult angle. Feyenoord had a hard time and fell behind after 23 minutes. Bjorn Meijer puts the ball perfectly ready for Michael de Leeuw, who shot the ball out of reach of Bijlow 0-1. At the end of the first half, the syrupy-looking Feyenoord gradually became more and more dangerous. Guus Til thought to tap in just before half-time, but Bart van Hintum managed to miraculously turn the ball off the line. Slot was clearly dissatisfied and soon took the very disappointing playing Jahanbakhsh and Linssen aside in the second half. With Cyriel Dessers and Patrik Walemark in the squad, Feyenoord increased the pressure. Sinisterra immediately had a good chance for the header, but Peter Leeuwenburgh was able to pick the ball from the far corner. The goalie had no answer in the 71st minute to a new cross from the right, given by Aursnes and nicely headed in by Dessers who made it 1-1. The Nigerian striker was then left again with the ball at his foot towards the goal, but stopped again in the sixteen and was stopped by two defenders. Shortly afterwards, Walemark spooned the ball perfectly onto the head of Dessers, who this time hit the outside of the post. Dessers did not make the list of players invited by the coach of Nigeria's Super Eagles Austin Eguavoen for the all important two-legged Qatar 2022 World Cup later this month.
