Sunday Dare, Mutiu Adepoju Mourn Ex-Flying Eagles Star Philip Osondu

Nigeria Sport Minister Sunday Dare and former Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju have expressed sadness over the death of ex-Flying Eagles star Philip Osondu.

According to various media outlets, Osondu, 48, died in Belgium after he was taken to hospital to be examined on Thursday after he felt unwell at work.

Unfortunately it was reported that he was confirmed dead on arrival.
Reacting to Osondu’s death, Dare wrote on his Twitter handle:”My condolences to the family, relatives ,friends and colleagues of Phillip Osondu on his sudden death. May his soul Rest In Peace.”

Adepoju recalled their achievements while playing for Nigeria at the junior level.

He wrote on his handle:”Philip Osondu was my teammate at Saudi 89 FIFA U20 World Cup, where we helped Nigeria finish in second position. So shattered about the news of his passing. Dear Lord, do grant him eternal rest and console his family.”

Osondu was a member of the Golden Eaglets squad that finished second at the 1987 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Canada.

The team lost on penalties to the then Soviet Union after regulation time ended 1-1.

Following his impressive performance, Osondu was awarded the Golden Ball.

Two years later he made the Flying Eagles squad that were runners up at the U-20 World Cup in Saudi Arabia.

He joined top Belgian club Anderlecht from El Kanemi Warriors in 1989.
