Sunday Dare Restates President Buhari Fight Against Corruption

Newly-appointed minister of youth and sports Sunday Akin Dare has restated that the fight against corruption remains one of the three pillars of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

The minister stressed this during his inaugural address Wednesday at the sports ministry in Abuja.

Dare, who has a journalistic background spanning over 28 years, also said he is not unaware of the challenges and controversies surrounding the sports ministry.

“We should take sports out of the back pages to the front pages with positive news,” he charged.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which is under the sports ministry, has been under the searchlight by the country’s various anti-graft agencies.

NFF president Amaju Pinnick and four top-ranking officials have been charged to court for alleged corruption and embezzlement of $8.4 million.

Three NFF staffers are also answering charges for the theft of over $10 million being grants from both FIFA and CAF for the development of football in Nigeria.

The new sports minister also said the work starts now, while tasking everyone at the ministry to think outside the box.
