Super Eagles Shoot Up In FIFA Ranking, As Senegal remain Africa’s No.1

The three-African champions  Super Eagles of Nigeria are now the third best team in Africa behind newly crowned AFCON champions the Terangha Lions and the Atlas Lions of Morocco in the latest FIFA/Coca-cola monthly rankings released on Thursday, BSNSports.com.ng reports. The Super Eagles were ranked 36th in the December rankings but have now moved up to 32nd in the world despite their round of 16 exit at the just-concluded AFCON 2021. But the team suffered a shocking exit in the second round of the competition as they lost 1-0 to Tunisia. Senegal’s Teranga Lions AFCON triumph sees them move up two places to 18th in the World while Morocco moved up four places to 24th, and Egypt sits at 34th and Tunisia at 36th and Cameroon at 38th. Nigeria’s opponent in next month’s two-legged 2022 World Cup playoffs Ghana dropped nine places to 61st in the world after finishing bottom of their AFCON group. AFCON 2018 champions Algeria who were Africa’s number one slipped to 43, while Mali occupy the 48th position and Ivory Coast in 51st spot. Other African countries in the top 100 bracket are Burkina Faso in 56th, Ghana in 61st, Congo DR in 66th, South Africa in 68th, and Cape Verde occupy the 73rd position.
