Super Falcons ouster: Okeke apologises to Nigerians

After the shocking exit of the African champions, from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games qualifier, Nigeria's Super Falcons defender Chidinma Okeke has tendered apology to Nigerians, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

BSN reports that Super Falcons failed to progress to the next round of the qualifier after they played out a 1-1draw against Cote d'Ivoire on Monday at the Agege stadium in Lagos, and crashed out on away goal rule. The Ivorians last Thursday had in the first leg in Abidjan held the nine-time African champions to a goalless draw.

The newly acquired Real Madrid Femeni player felt hurt about the outcome but believe the team will bounce back stronger.

"Crashing out of the Olympic race leaves a bad taste in our mouths. It really hurt most because it’s the dream of every sports men and women to play at the Olympic Games.

"Results are remembered but we can always learn from our mistakes and grow. Apologies to the fans," she stated.

The 1-1 result at the Agege Stadium on Monday means, Super Falcons will be missing out in the Olympics Games for the third consecutive time.
