Taiwo Awoniyi Missing As Leipzig Humiliate Mainz With 8 Goals

Nigeria's U23 and Mainz 05 forward Taiwo Awoniyi was an unused substitute in his German club 8-0 annihilation in the hand of RasenBallsport Leipzig in the matchday 10 tie at the Red Bull Arena, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

BSN Sports reports that Mainz 05 manager, Sandro Schwarz who deployed 4-1-3-2 formation in the Saturday's league match left the Nigeria international on the bench as his team went down 5-0 in the first half of the encounter at the Red Bull Arena Stadium.

Sandro's efforts to stop the embarrassing goals from coming proved abortive even when he introduced more defenders into the game to curtail Leipzig attacking prowess. Not willing to go for goals but defend well, the manager left Awoniyi on the bench through out the one-sided encounter.

Timo Warmer scored hat trick, as Yusuf Pulsen, Marcel Sabitzer, Christopher Nkunku, Nordi Markiele and Marcel Hastenberg scored one goal apiece to complete the rout in from of 38,517 spectators.

Mainz 05 are 14th on the log having 9 points from 10 matches with 5 points above bottom-placed SC Paderborn and just two points better than relegation placed FC Koln and Augsburg.
