Tokyo, Mar 11 (Prensa Latina) The Organizing Group of the Tokyo 2021 Games on Thursday noted the reelection of Thomas Bach as president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) until 2025.
Seiko Hashimoto, head of the preparatory committee for the Olympic and Paralympic events to be held this year, highlighted Bach’s leadership and his work in promoting numerous reforms since his original appointment as head of the IOC in 2013.
According to the official website of the games, Hashimoto thanked Bach for his efforts to ensure that the Olympic competition will be held in the Japanese capital amid the global situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
‘President Bach was also an Olympic gold medalist, and I am very reassured by his understanding of how to manage the Games in a way that prioritizes the needs of the athletes,’ the Japanese leader said.
According to the publication, the leader of the Tokyo 2021 Organizing Committee ratified the IOC head’s indications of holding a safe and secure Games.
The former fencer and Olympic gold medalist in Montreal 1976 was the only candidate for the IOC presidency and won 93 votes in favor, four abstentions and one against during the 137th session of the world body, held online on Wednesday.
