  Tokyo 2020: Nigeria Boxers To Miss Olympic As Qualifications Cancelled By Sampson Adedeji The hope of Nigeria Boxers to secure passage to Tokyo 2020 Olympic games has finally been dashed after International Olympic Committe (IOC) announced the cancellation of the qualifiers, BSNSports.com.ng reports. Nigeria boxers failed to take part in the earlier qualifier that was held in Dakar, Senegal in February 2020 due to non availability of fund. They put their hope in May qualifiers but were unable due to outbreak of Coronavirus. According to IOC on Tuesday afternoon, all the remaining qualifiers for Boxing event has been cancelled and the remaining spaces will be allocated. “current challenges to international travel and related restrictions in many countries” during the coronavirus pandemic. Boxers worldwide were to compete for 53 places in the Tokyo lineup at a tournament in Paris in June. Those places will now be allocated equally across continents by world rankings based on results since 2017, the IOC said. Olympic entries from Africa and the Asia-Oceania region will now be allocated by rankings while boxers in the Americas and Europe can still earn qualifying places in the ring.
