Tokyo 2020: Olympic Games Will Be Cancel If ....
By Sampson Adedeji
Due to the rise of Covid-19 cases, Director General of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics organizing committee, Toshiro Muto, didn’t rule out the possibility of cancelling the Olympic Games, BSNSports.com.ng can reports.
The Tokyo Games were already postponed last year due to the rise of the Covid-19 pandemic. The organizing committee said all the events will be played behind closed doors to minimize health risks.
To make matters worse, some sponsors even decided to boycott the Friday opening ceremony. Additionally, since July 1, the number of accredited people for the Games that have tested positive has reached 68.
As a result, Muto didn’t rule out the possibility of postponing the Olympics.
“We can’t predict what will happen with the number of coronavirus cases. So we will continue discussions if there is a spike in cases,” Muto told the press.
“We have agreed that based on the coronavirus situation, we will convene five-party talks again. At this point, the coronavirus cases may rise or fall, so we will think about what we should do when the situation arises,” he added.
