Tokyo Olympic: Humiliation As NBBF Turns To GoFundMe To Raise Money For Distressed D'Tigers Coach By Niyi Busari Distress coach of Nigeria men's basketball team, Mike Brown has opened a GoFundMe account to seek financial aid ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic in Japan, BSNSports.com.ng can report. Gofundme is a crowdfunding platform that allows people to raise money for myriad of life events or challenges. The American coach posted a link through which the public could donate money. The GoFundMe set up by the Coach titled "Support the Nigerian Men's Basketball Team" with the Logo, 'Friends of Nigerian Basketball Foundation' which is not known to Nigeria law nor basketball family. It reads, "Team Nigeria is the only men’s basketball team representing the continent of Africa in the upcoming 2021 Olympic games in Tokyo. "The Friends of Nigerian Basketball Foundation will raise funds and awareness for this campaign, and we need your support! Your donations will help provide training, travel and organizational support to the FONB program and all contributions are tax deductible. We thank you in advance for your support. It added, "The Friends of Nigerian Basketball Foundation is a non-profit corporation organized under Delaware law (EIN: 86-3270553). The Foundation has applied with the IRS for tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3). It is anticipated that the application will be approved in the near future. IRS Approval will be retroactive to April 5, 2021." As at the time of compiling this report, the sum of Two thousand seven hundred and eighty US dollars ($2,780) has been donated by 18 donors with target donation of One million Us Dollars ($1,000,000). It is not immediately clear what the money intended to raise is meant for because the Federal Government funds all Teams representing Nigeria at the Olympic Games. On Monday in Abuja, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare announced that Team Nigeria will leave the shore of this country for Japan in two batches adding that funds have been raised for 20 athletes who have been adopted under his Adopt-An-Athlete initiative and also stated the athletes who will fly the country's flag at the Olympic will not lack funds as that will be taken care of by the Federal Government.
