Tokyo Olympics: Athletes' Hopes Dashed As African Championship Is Postponed By Niyi Busari The Athletics African Championships (seniors), which were to take place in Algiers from June 22 to 26, have been postponed to a later date, BSNSports.com.ng can report. The postponement of Athletics tourney was not unconnected to Covid-19 reasons. A statement from the Algeria Ministry of Youth and Sports reads: "African Championships scheduled to hold in Algeria is postponed to a later date due to the health situation linked to the Covid-19 pandemic and following the recommendations of the scientific committee for monitoring the evolution of the pandemic, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MJS) announced on Wednesday." This is a big blow for athletes who are trying to achieve the Olympic standard or get World Ranking points to secure Olympic qualification. With this development, hopes of Nigeria athletes who have been training hard to get Olympics tickets through the African championship have been dashed.
