Tokyo Olympics injury: "I Will Be Okay In Two Weeks Time" - Enoch By Our Reporter Nigeria's representative in the final of Men's 100 metre race at the ongoing 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Enoch Adegoke has allayed fears of his compatriots over the injury, which dashed his hope of winning his first ever Olympic medal in Tokyo last Sunday. The injury sustained in the thick of action at the final of Men's 100 metre race brought the glorious Olympic campaign of Adegoke, who became the third Nigerian to race in the final of the Olympics 100m event after Oladapo Adenikan and Davidson Ezenwa, to a sad end. The hamstring injury prevented the Nigerian sprint champion, who ran a personal best of 9.98 seconds in the heat and also equalled his former previous personal best of 10 seconds during the Tokyo Olympics, from further going into the history book as he couldn't complete the Men's 100 metre finals. The 21-year-old athlete said, in an exclusive interview with BCOS Sports Presenter, Boluwaji Ogunmola, that the injury is not so serious as he had initially thought. "The injury is not so serious. It's just a minor muscle strains. I'll be fine in the next two weeks", Adegoke assured. Enoch said he didn’t feel any pain before the commencement of the Men's 100 metre final, adding that the injury suddenly cropped up as he was running in the final race. Speaking further, Enoch Adegoke affirmed that he is a proud son of Oyo state and feel honoured to represent Nigeria in the final of the Men’s 100m race at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics Games. The 21-year-old sprinter reached the final on Sunday after running 9.98 second to win his heat and 9.00 seconds in the semi-final. On his relationship with Edo State, the Oyo state indigene explained that prior to the last National Sports Festival in Edo State, he was invited by the host state to represent them and he went ahead to win gold for the state. The Igbope born athlete won the Men's 100 meters final at the last National Sport Festival (Edo 2020) with a time of 10.28s ahead of team mate, Alaba Akintola who took second position with 10.29 second. "After qualifying for the Olympics, Edo State Deputy Governor, Mr Philip Shuaibu promised me that the state government would support me at the Games in Tokyo", he said. On his sterling performance at the Tokyo Olympics, Enoch attributed his feats to God, his coach and team officials, pointing out that injury which marred his performance could have been averted if his personal physioterapist was granted visa to accompany him to the games. It would be recalled that Enoch Adegoke had earlier competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in both the 100 metres and the 4x100 metres relay. And he is currently the fastest man in Nigeria after beating the likes of Usheoritse Itsekiri and Jerry Jakpa to claim the title.
