TRANSFER GISTS ALERT: Onyekuru wanted in Turkey, gets attention in Super Lig club

Henry Onyekuru wants to walk away from the nightmare his stint at Olympiakos has become. Several clubs in Turkey showed interest in the forward in January, BSNSports.com.ng reports. Henry Onyekuru is not quite a household name in Nigeria, but he has been a loyal servant of the Super Eagles of Nigeria. Onyekuru is always ready to serve his fatherland even if he has not delivered virtuoso performances. He is the kind of player that can fill a gap adequately, but he needs to perform at a top-quality level consistently. There was hype about Onyekuru when he burst onto the scene, with plenty of expectations. The forward is yet to deliver on the promise. Onyekuru has had a career traversing England, Belgium, Turkey and France. Onyekuru is currently in Greece but is still struggling to make a mark. Despite his struggles, Onyekuru has continued to attract attention from clubs across Europe. The Nigerian international is wanted by a Super Lig club, as rumours of another move continue to wax stronger. The Turkish transfer window closed on February 8, but Henry Onyekuru is still wanted in Turkey. The Nigerian forward has struggled to adapt to life in Greece, where he plays for Olympiacos, but Onyekuru has managed to get the attention of several clubs in Europe. Rumours were rife of a deal happening this winter, but nothing came off the interest in him. There was interest in the winter transfer window for Onyekuru by Turkish Super Lig side Adana Demirspor. The Turkish side confirmed their interest in the player during the just concluded transfer window. A deal seemed cast in stone that Onyekuru would swap clubs in January with Turkish giants jostling for his signature. Reports suggested that Besiktas, Fenerbahce, Basaksehir and Galatasaray tried to outdo each other to land the former Monaco man. An agreement for Onyekuru failed to materialize, and he remains at Olympiakos till the end of the season. Onyekuru started his European career with Aspire Academy partners K.A.S Eupen in Belgium. Onyekuru soon joined Premier League side Everton FC for £7 million. Onyekuru never got to play for Everton and spent loan spells at Anderlecht and Galatasaray before joining Monaco for a fee believed to be around £12 – £15 million. Onyekuru finally ended up in Greece with Greek giants Olympiakos. It has been an arduous start to life for the Nigerian forward in the Greek Super League. It has been a tale of woe for the Nigerian international since making his 4.5million euros move last summer. Onyekuru has made 23 appearances for Olympiakos in all competitions and has scored only one goal for the Greek giants. The Greek champions may have lost patience with the striker and are ready to let him go. Besiktas, Fenerbahce, Basaksehir and Galatasaray are not the only clubs interested in Onyekuru. Reports suggest that Adana Demirspor president Murat Sancak wanted to bring the former Moncao player to Turkey in January. Adana Demirspor is a mid-table club in Turkey. Perhaps, it is what Onyekuru needs to resuscitate his career. Maybe Onyekuru would thrive in a club where the pressure to deliver consistently would help his confidence in getting back to the top. Onyekuru says he prefers a return to Galatasaray, where he played his best football. A move to Turkey would have to wait till the summer.
