According to Akinwunmi, participants will be drawn from the semi finalist of the last channels TV kids cup; LGEA central school, Kaiama, Kwara state, Emmanuel Anglican Nursery and primary school, Okesa, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state, Baptist Government Primary school, Oshogbo, Ogun State, X-Planter Nursery and Primary school, Ikorodu, Lagos, Amigo Largema military cantonment Primary school, Biu, Borno States and Ekofootball future stars, Lagos State. Arrival and draws of the teams have been scheduled for Friday 31st August 2018 while tournament proper will start from Saturday September 1 to Sunday September 2. Barrister Akinwunmi said the tournament is expected to entertain and offer opportunity to peep into the future of Nigerian football . “I’m overwhelmed by the response we are getting so far. Remember the competition is not about seyi, it’s about the kids. For the past 5 years we have staged the Seyi Akinwunmi mini tournament but that has been dorminated by adults thereby barely giving children, who are the future a chance. This time we decided that it will be all about the kids” Akinwunmi said. He further explained that the Channel’s kids cup was chosen as a prerequisite because of the partnership that has lasted between the Lagos State football association and Channels TV. “The Channels kids cup is a baby we all love and the easiest way is not changing the winning formula. The kids are talented and behaved kids, why don’t we just bring them back” he said. According to him, it’s not just about football but about compassion. In view of that, best player for each team will be awarded scholarship worth minimum of N150,000 that will go straight to the kid’s education. He said the idea is to multiply the talents, have 4 kids this year and expand them, giving them chance in football and chance in Education.
