U20 AFCON: John Obuh Throws Weight Behind Flying Eagles To Beat Niger Republic
By Niyi Busari
Former Flying Eagles coach, John Obuh has dismissed the insinuation that the home team is always difficult to beat in an international competition like the U20 African Nations Cup, BSN Sports.com.ng reports.
Obuh, in an interview on Channels TV on Thursday, is optimistic that Nigeria's U20 team has what it takes to get an outright win in today's last 'Group A' game against the Niger Republic.
He, however, admitted that the spectators will be cheering the home team but argued that Nigeria parades better and more experienced players compare to their Niger Republic counterparts and therefore, has a better chance to qualify at the expense of the host.
"Host country don't work at this level. At this stage, the better team always win, " he said.
"The Nigerian team are better than the Niger Republic U20, from what I have watched so far. However, our boys must be focused and determined to get an outright win to be sure of semi-final and World Cup tickets."
The Flying Eagles need just a point to confirm their progression to the semifinals and also book one of the four world cup tickets, whilst a defeat could be disastrous, especially if South Africa defeats Burundi in the other group game.
Nigeria however currently top Group A with four points from their opening two games, two points ahead of Niger and South Africa who both have two points each.
