U23 AFCON: Imama Says He Has No Contract With The NFF

Coach of Nigeria U23 team, Imama Amapakabo, has revealed he does not have a contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Imama who guided the Nigeria's U23 national team to the African Nations Cup in Egypt has been standing in for suspended Salisu Yusuf for the past one year.

“I don’t actually have a contract with the NFF,” he said in a radio interview monitored by SCORENigeria.

“I was appointed as an assistant coach, who is only entitled to allowances and bonuses.”

The recent policy of the NFF as it concerns the appointment of national team coaches is that only head coaches of the team have a contract with the federation and so they are entitled to monthly salaries.

However, Imama said he national assignment has also deterred clubs who wish to appoint him.

“I am in a difficult situation because clubs don’t want to touch me because I am also fully engaged with the national team,” said the coach, who has qualified the country to the U23 AFCON in Egypt.

Salisu Yusuf has been pardoned by the NFF after he served out a year’s ban for receiving money from undercover journalists, who posed as football agents.
