U23 AFCON: Olympic Eagles Threaten To Boycott Group B Opener Against Cote d'Ivoire

The U23 national team of Nigeria have concluded plans not to honour their Saturday's group B opener against Ivory Coast in Ismaila, Egypt, BSNSports.com.ng can reveal.

Nigeria, the defending champions of the quadrennial tournament may give away their three points in the first match against Ivory Coast on Saturday due to backlogs of salaries and allowances as the players and coaches are not happy about the payment of allowances.

A reliable from their camp in Egypt told www.bsnsports.com.ng that they have not been paid their match bonus in their matches against Libya and Sudan during the qualifiers for the U23 African Nations Cup.

The source who preferred his name with held added that the coaches as well as the players have not received a dime since the beginning of their camping in Abuja few weeks ago.

Recall that the coaching crew of the Golden Eaglets who just crashed out of the ongoing 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup in Brazil after losing 1-3 to Netherlands were also owed six months salary.

The 2019 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations will be the third edition of the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations , the quadrennial international age-restricted football championship organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the men's under-23 national teams of Africa.

The tournament will determine which three African teams will compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics men's football tournament in Japan.

Nigeria are the defending champions and are scheduled to face Ivory Coast in their first group B match on Saturday at 4:00 pm. The tournament which kicks off tomorrow (Friday) with the host, Egypt slugging or out against Mali at 6:00 pm (Nigerian time).
