U23 AFCON: Olympic Eagles Resume Training Camp In Abuja

Ahead of the AFCON U23 tournament slated for November, Nigeria’s U23 team have reopened camp as the team prepares for the competition slated for Egypt.

The Olympic Eagles who qualified for the tournament after thrashing Sudan 5-1 on aggregate last month will camp in Abuja before departing for Egypt for the eight-nation tournament.

The team had previously had a 3-week closed door intensive training in Abuja.

Coach Imama Amapakabo led the team to through their first training session on Monday morning as they formally started preparing for the AFCON U23 which starts on 8th of November.

Nigeria are the defending champions having won the tournament four years ago in Dakar, Senegalese.

The Olympic Eagles are in group B and will square up against opponents Cote d' Ivoire in their first game before taking on South Africa and Zambia respectively.

The competition will serve as qualifiers for next year's Olympics in Japan.

The top three sides at the tournament will go on to represent the continent at the showpiece event.

Correspondent Sharif Abdallah reports that the foreign based professionals are expected to join the rest of their teammates next Monday after playing for their various clubs over the weekend.

The fiesta will last for two weeks, starting from the 8th to 22nd of November.
