TIE OVER? Manchester City thrashed Sporting CP 5-0 in a Champions League first-leg last-16 tie staged at José Alvalade on Tuesday night.  City took the lead inside seven minutes of play through Riyad Mahrez. Silva cut the back for Phil Foden whose shot was well saved. It fell to De Bruyne who was able to pull it back for Mahrez before he found the net with ease. De Bruyne was initially flagged offside but replays showed he was comfortably on but the goal stood. Pep Guardiola's men added the second and were in total control of the game. Sporting made an initial clearance to the far corner and Silva recovered. And the former Benfica man fired in City's second with a sublime half volley off the bar.   In the 32nd minute, the Cytizens were running riot as Phil Foden added the third for the visitors. Riyad Mahrez's right-footed cross found it way through a sea of legs, before finding Foden who dispatched from inside the six-yard box, marking is 150th City appearance with a goal. Just before halftime, City had the four and well, tie over or game was over. Silva had his second of the game after a deflected shot from Sterling's cut-back that saw Adan beat in goal. At the start of the second half, Bernardo Silva seemed to have completed his hattrick but the midfielder was denied by the VAR after mistiming De Bruyne's run. Minutes later, City had the fifth and it was Raheem Sterling making it 5-0 as he scored is 150th goal for the Cytizens with an effortless finish.
