UCL: Bonke Innocent Sees Red As Malmo FF Knocks Nigeria's Quartet Out By Omolagba Oluwayemi When the group stages of 2021/22 UEFA Champions League season kickoffs, the quartet of Nigerian in Rangers will not take part as their club crashed out of the club football biggest competition, BSNSports.com.ng reports Rangers' Champions League journey came to an end against Malmo at Ibrox on Tuesday night after losing 1-2 (2-4 aggregate) to the Swedish side. Leading 1-0 at the interval through an Alfredo Morelos strike, Antonio Colak netted twice inside four second half minutes to turn the tie on its head. Everyone knew the first time Ibrox was full again after the pandemic would be a special occasion – but the noise in the lead up to kick-off really did defy description on what was a pleasant summer’s evening in Govan. Nigeria defender, Leon Balogun was one of the four changes made by manager Steven Gerrard from the team that lost to Dundee United over the weekend while Calvin Bassey made the bench for the entire duration. Usual midfield suspect, Joe Aribo was on for the entire duration but could do little to prevent his side from losing. On the other end, Nigeria Professional Footballer, Bonke Innocent was shown a red card in the encounter. Having already been booked, Innocent caught Goldson on the shin with his studs, and after some deliberation from the Slovenian referee, was shown a second yellow card. Rangers will now have to try to qualify for the Europa League after their Champions League bid failed while Malmo will look to get past Ludogorets Razgrad to stand a chance of progressing to the group stages.
