UCL: Ndubuisi Egbo Optimistic Of Victory Over Former European Champions
By Admin
KF Tirana manager Ndubuisi Egbo was magnanimous in victory over opponents Dinamo Tbilisi in the UEFA Champions League First Qualifying Round on Wednesday.
In the aftermath of the draw, it was widely expected Dinamo would go over the Albanian champions. However, Tirana pulled off an upset, with a late goal in either half condemning the hosts to a 2-0 defeat.
Egbo, speaking in a press conference after the match, revealed his side had worked on nullifying Dinamo’s strengths, a strategy that paid off handsomely. “We knew that Dinamo is an aggressive team and use the wings very actively. The game played out according to our predictions.”
Despite this, the Nigerian coach was respectful of the beaten hosts. He also praised his team’s application on the night, and ascribed the victory to God.
“We won, but that does not change the fact that the opponent is a strong team. We wanted to be compact at the back and play aggressively in attack.
“Of course I will dedicate this victory to God as it is my philosophy in life. He is the one who gives you the opportunities. Even the goals came from nothing, even though we waited for the right moment. So it is God who gives me the confidence to win matches.
“Despite the work and service that the boys did fighting for every ball today, the dedication goes to God and then to the boys for the competitive spirit that they showed on the field today. There are many things these boys can achieve. The team has a lot of harmony; within there is unity. It gives us many opportunities to work.”
On the prospect of former European champions Crvena Zvezda in the next round, Egbo was optimistic. “It will be a strong match against Crvena. We will approach Crvena Zvezda the same way we approached this game. We have it a little better since we are playing at home. Everything is possible if we give 100%.”
