Shaktar proved their superiority by scoring in each half through Traore and Marcos Bahia in the 27th and 76th minutes of the game. Dessers was introduced in the 68th minute for Lucumi and he was able to make his introduction counted by reducing the deficit in the 90th minute. His compatriot Onuachu was replaced by Mujaid Sadick in the 82nd minute of the encounter. The defeat ensured that Genk lost to Shaktar 4-2 on the aggregate scoreline and will further campaign in the UEFA Europa League
