UEFA
Barcelona's Champions League group match against Bayern Munich next week will be played without fans due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation in Bavaria, the LaLiga club announced on Friday, BSNSports.com.ng gathered. Barcelona, who are second in Group E behind Bayern, are scheduled to face Bayern on Dec. 8 at the Allianz Arena. "Bayern Munich v FC Barcelona will be played behind closed doors," the Spanish club said. "The game corresponding to matchday six in the Champions League will be played without fans in the stadium due to the serious increase in coronavirus cases in the German region of Bavaria in the last few weeks." Manchester City's Dec. 7 match against RB Leipzig will also be played behind closed doors, following Saxony's partial lockdown last month. The German government reinstated restrictions on sporting events on Thursday, citing an increase in COVID-19 infections. Bundesliga matches will now be limited to an attendance of up to 50% and a maximum of 15,000 spectators. German authorities are concerned that a fourth wave of COVID-19 could overwhelm intensive care units following Thursday's record of 73,000 new infections and 388 deaths. Two additional cases of the new Omicron variant were discovered last week in the southern German state of Bavaria.
