  UFC 258: Kamaru Usman Defeats Former Partner Gilbert Burns To Maintain Dominance In Welterweight Division Nigeria's UFC Welterweight Champion, Kamaru Usman retained his Title after defeating former sparring partner Brazilian Gilbert Burns via technical knockout TKO in the third round of their fight at the Apex Arena in Las Vegas, United States. The bout which saw Burns startle a cautious Usman with a big right hand to his temple in the first round, changed course in the second and third which only lasted 34 seconds for a fight considered to be the Nigerian toughest defence of his title. Usman used his long reach to throw some devastating jabs to the face of his challenger which yielded instant results with the Brazilian hurting and trying to absorb the pains after falling to the canvass. Burns managed to survive the second round with his fatigue riddled frame, but got hurt within the early stage of the third round after he fell again to the canvass this time defenceless and Usman taking the advantage to pummelled the Jiu-Jitsu Champion before the Referee ended the bout. This is the third time Usman is defending his belt since he snatched the title from Tyron Woodley in 2019. With tonight's victory He surpasses UFC Legend, Georges St-Pierre's record for the largest win-streak in the division with thirteen.
