Uyo To Host Super Eagles Vs Benin Republic AFCON Qualifier Match

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) may have finally settled for the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom capital to hold the first leg qualifying match between the Super Eagles and their counterparts from the Benin Republic on November 13.

Unconfirmed reports last week revealed that Asaba were favoured to host the match even though Benin and Uyo were also in the race.

However, the picture is getting clearer on where the match would be played after invitations were sent out to the respective state Football Association chairmen and secretaries notifying them of the NFF congress for November 13.

“That means Asaba is no longer in the picture with the latest information,” said a source privy to the invitations.

Information gathered has it that the congress would hold at 9 am in Uyo after which members would head for the stadium to watch the match.

The choice of Uyo if its stands should be a welcome development to the players who were against playing in Asaba owing to the state of the pitch.
