Vincent Abuobakar Brace Secures Win For Cameroon In AFCON Opener Sampson Adedeji After much delay due to the outbreak of Coronavirus, the 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations started in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon on Sunday, BSNsports.com.ng can report After a colourful opening ceremony which was witnessed by dignitaries across the world including FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, CAF President, Patrice Motsepe and the host country's President, Paul Biya, the Indomitable Lions lived up to expectations with a 2-1 win over Burkina Faso. The host started in a very high-tempo manner but was well contained by the well-organised backline of the Stallions. It was Gustavo Sangare who netted the opening goal in the 24th minute against the run of play that beat goalkeeper Andre Onana hands down. Cameroon were awarded a penalty few minutes later after Bertrand Traore committed a foul in box and it was well converted by Vincent Abuobakar. Abuobakar completed his brace with another penalty after a hard tackle on Zambo Anguisa and gave the host a lead going into halftime. Abuobakar has the ball inside the net in the second half but ruled out by VAR but Cameroon held to secure maximum point against the Burkina Faso. This will be the second time Cameroon will beat Burkina Faso in the opening game of AFCON, the first time was in 1998 in Burkina Faso. Meanwhile, Abuobakar was awarded man of the match for that match.
