The bitter experience started when their salaries and allowances were not paid since April 2018. The players and officials have borrowed money and contributed money to participate in their geo-political and regional qualifier in April where they qualified for the finals in Kaduna but shited to Abuja. It was the case of frying pan to fire, since their arrival to participate in the first volleyball league in Abuja as they have been playing matches on empty stomach, sneaked into Badminton Hall of the National Stadium to lay their heads on bare floor and has no place to rest before and after their each game, a reliable source revealed to www.bsnsports.com.ng. Plateau Rocks is one of the volleyball teams that register and participate in the ongoing maiden volleyball league in Abuja. The official who spoke with BSN Sports but preferred his name not mentioned added that they wait around till 11:00 pm everyday before they can gain access to the hall even though they bribed the security guys in charge of the hall. The security comes to wake them up 5:30 am, so that no one suspect that people are sleeping inside the hall. One of the players lamented their woes, saying that they have been living their lives on borrowing from friends and relatives hoping that when the state government pay their allowances they will in turn pay their debts. "Before we came to Abuja, we submitted a proposal on the money to Plateau state government. Despite our plea to the government to release the funds, up till now, nothing has happened." "We registered 9 players instead of 14 because we can't afford to bring everyone to Abuja. In volleyball, 6 players start each game, then, we are left with two players on the bench and a libero. Now, after three matches, two players are injured and to avoid walk over we fielded injury players to complete the tournament, so as to avoid being disqualified. "We have played 3 matches and lost all despite our determination." The players and officials appealed to the state government, Simon Lalong to approve the payment of backlogs of outstanding of their allowances.
