By Admin The President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Engineer Musa Kida has said the clamor for fresh election is distracting his board to put necessary conditions in place ahead of the election, as stipulated by the sports’ world governing body, FIBA. Kida made this position known on Saturday in an interview with newsmen in Abuja. According to him, drafting a new constitution and get the necessary validation comes before organizing a fresh election. FIBA said NBBF has no standing constitution; therefore, the first step is to draft a constitution and get it validated by the government and FIBA. That condition has to come before we can talk about any election. We are distracted by the noise around, I just believe that all basketball stakeholders understand the mandate they have given my board. Understanding such will make them come along and contribute meaningfully instead of causing distractions to the board,” he said. On preparations for the FIBA World Cup for women in Spain, the federation’s helmsman rolled out its success plan at the Mundial. To ensure that we have a fruitful outing at the 2018 FIBA world cup, preparation is at advance stage. We have been able to organise where they are going to camp in Atlanta, U.S. and we already have an arena where we are going to be practicing there. We have also invited all the players that are available all over the world, including players from Nigeria. They will soon report to Atlanta where Sam Vincent, the National Coach will receive them and then be able to make the selection for the team,” he said. On preparations to host the second leg of FIBA Africa 3×3, the NBBF boss also said preparation was in top gear. “It is very difficult to host international events but the board is convinced that benefits of hosting far outweigh the difficulties. This board is very determined that we will host the 3×3 window by the end of June, beginning of July. We are prepared first of all with our players and our coaches to know who will be available and who will not. We are using the indoor sports hall of National Stadium, Lagos. We are already putting infrastructures in place in order to be acceptable to FIBA,” he said.
