We Are In Talks With Liverpool Over Awoniyi - Mainz 05 Director

The Director of German Bundesliga side Mainz 05, Rouven Schroder has confirmed that they have started discussions with the English premier league side Liverpool over Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi.

Awoniyi joined Mainz 05 on loan from the Reds last season after the league leader failed to secure his compulsory work permit.

Since the restart of the German league, Awoniyi has been outstanding for the club netting once in the last three matches.

Schroder said they opened discussions with Liverpool over another loan deal but they still have to wait till the season end.

"I am very, very positive about him. Taiwo never let himself down, always had his head up and the absolute will to improve was never negative. It is a symbol of how team sport works.

"We are in an exchange with Liverpool, that is an open position. We are now waiting for the last games. Then we'll see what the next steps are," he said.

Awoniyi spent last season on loan in the Belgian Jupiler League with Royal Excel Mouscron.
