2016/17 NPFL champions, Plateau United players have complained of playing on empty stomach for the club in the ongoing Aiteo cup as promises made by government has not been fulfilled, BSN Sports reports.
The players accused the state government of not fulfilling the promises it made after winning the league two seasons ago. They added that they are being owed salaries which resulted to playing on empty stomach.
One of the regular players who want his name not mentioned said, it is time they speak out because they might die in silence.
"We are suffering, we have been playing on empty stomach in the ongoing Aiteo cup. The government on its part has not fulfill the promises made when we won the league." He stated.
Meanwhile, the captain of the team, Golbe Elisha refuted the claim and said that they are not being owed any salary as all salaries are up to date except September which they are waiting for, he added that all outstanding allowances have also been cleared.
"All salaries are up to date except September which we are waiting for.
"All outstanding allowances have been cleared. Although,
Promises made after winning the league have not been fulfilled." He said
In the same vein the General manager of Plateau United Mr Hemwan argued that all monies have been paid. He challenged any player who claimed he is being owed to see him in person to establish the claim.
"All monies have been paid. Any player who claims he hasn't should feel free to see me at the office tomorrow by noon.
He agreed promises made by the governor have not been fulfilled but he met Gov. Lalong last week and he was assured promises will be redeemed.
Mr Henwan said he can only sort the promises out if the government give him whatever is due to the players for winning the league.
