We Have What We Need - Rohr
By Sampson Adedeji
Nigeria's Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has stated his believe in the abilities of the players in the team to achieve great things.
Franco-German coach joined the team in 2016 and was able to qualify the team for Russia 2018 World Cup and finished in third position at the 2019 African Cup Of Nations in Egypt, BSN Reports.
Three players from the team, skipper John Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and striker Odion Ighalo all retired from international football after the tournaments, despite that, Rohr is optimistic the present squad without the trio can still achieve great things.
Rohr has been searching for adequate replacement for the retired players with various players invited to fight for vacant position.
The head coach confirmed on Sunday afternoon while speaking to Punch reporter that he believes the coming of Cyril Desser into the team attack will surely cover for Ighalo exits alongside Lille forward Victor Osimhen.
" We have Cyriel Dessers now. We have great strikers who can play the position too. There is a good foundation. We go forward all the time to find our players abroad.
“For wingers, forwards, we have Samuel Chukwueze, Ahmed Musa, Samuel Kalu, Alex Iwobi and others too. We have what we need. These are players who have been to the World Cup and have played at some of the biggest stages in the world," he said.
Desser who plays for Dutch side Heracles is yet to dorn Nigeria colour but was among the newly invited players for 2021 African Cup Of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone before the suspension of the tie.
