What Jurgen Klopp Told Me - Taiwo Awoniyi

Nigeria international, Taiwo Awoniyi has revealed what Liverpool head coach, Jurgen Klopp told him about his return back to Liverpool at Anfield before he left for German Bundelisga side, Mainz 05, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

Awoniyi on Saturday Breakfast Sports on BCOS from his base in Germany, said he was the first player Klopp met in Liverpool camp when the2019/20 season resumed.

Awoniyi had to cut short his preseason holidaying in Nigeria and rushed to Liverpool following a thigh injury he sustained when playing a friendly match with his Youth team in Ilorin. The Mainz 05 striker said Klopp hugged and told him that he should bear it mind that Liverpool is his home and hope that he will still come back soon to join the team.

In his words: "I was in Nigeria training with my youth team when i had a tear in my lap. So, i text a message to my team and they arranged for my travelling to treat the injury. I travelled to Liverpool for rehab. So, i was the first player to be in camp because of the treatment that made the first player to meet with Jurgen Klopp when he resumed. He said 'Taiwo, you're still injured? I hope you will come back soon.' When i recovered, the league was about to start, then the following week, they told me that Mainz 05 wanted me. I knew i can't make Liverpool first team, so i decided to join Mainz 05. When i was leaving for Germany, he sent a message to me, 'This is your home where you started your career from, take Mainz 05 as your home too but i hope you return to your main home (Liverpool) soon. I wish you all the best in the season'.

On August 31st, 2015 Taiwo Awoniyi signed for the English giants, Liverpool for a fee around £400,000 but was immediately loaned to FSV Frankfurk.
He also had short stint with NEC in Holland, Royal Excel Mouscron, Gent in Belgium before signing for Mainz 05 in 2019.
