Why Buhari Has Not Assented The NFF Bill - Minister of Sports

By Niyi Busari

Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare revealed why President Muhammadu Buhari has not assented the Nigeria Football Federation bill before the national assembly, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The bill, if assented by the president means that the federal government will hand off from football and will be run independent by the NFF.

Dare said the decision on whether president Muhammadu Buhari will assent the bill depend on the decision that will be collaboratively taken by the National Assembly, the Committees in the House and the Senate, and the National Council on Sports.

"NFF is the only federation that is a mere parastatal under the government. There is an NFF bill that exists which has gone to the parliament and now awaits the president's assent.

"The assent has not happened because we are taking another look at it. The debate on whether the federal government will hand off football is a decision that will be taking by not only me or the ministry but it has to be taken collaboratively because it involves the national assembly, the committees both in the House and the Senate, the National Council on Sports and look at it critically and advice government on what is best for our country. And until that happens. I am limited to making a pronouncement in that direction." Dare concluded.
