Why
Why FCT League Kicks Off July - FA Chairman By Niyi Busari The Chairman, Federal Capital Territory Football Association (FCT FA), Mohammed Mouktar has listed weather, lack of facilities as reasons the State league has not commenced, BSNSports.com.ng reports. Mouktar stated this while addressing Executive Committee and members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) FCT Chapter, in his office at the Old Parade Ground Area 10, Abuja. The Bunmi Haruna led SWAN was received by the FCT FA Chairman, the Secretary, Haruna Ilerika and Assistant Secretary, Omede. The Chairman who promised to work in harmony with SWAN said the number of teams in Abuja plying their trade in the Nigeria National League (four) using the Area 3 Sports Complex pitch as home venue and the hot weather were responsible for shifting the league to hold in July, when the NNL will be on hold. He said, "The FCT League will commence in July, 2021. The late in commencement of the league was due to the fact that we don't want a situation where teams will be playing on the turf at 1pm or 2pm when the weather is too hot. That is not good for the health of the players. Also, don't forget that we have four teams playing in the NNL in Abuja. They all use the same venue for their league games. This will make it difficult for us to schedule games of about 80 clubs who are willing to register in this year's competition to play on the same turf. For these reasons, plans have been concluded to commence the League in July after Covid-19 pandemic halted the second edition." He concluded Since he came on board in June 2019, the FCT FA League is rated the best in the country following the quality of the competition, media hype and social drive it got in the first edition.
