Former NBA star Olumide Oyedeji has disclosed that at a point in his lifetime, he dropped out of school.

He however revealed that he later resumed his academics and thereafter worked as bus conductor on Saturdays and Sundays to fund his education.

The former D’Tigers Captain explained that his love for education and desire to be an achiever made him go extra length to get educated.

The highly successful basketball player, who played for 21 teams in 18 countries revealed this while featuring on BCOS TV flagship Sport Program, Saturday Breakfast Sport Show, anchored by Boluwaji Ogunmola and produced by Adewale Tijani.

Olumide, who confirmed during the interview that he dropped out of school for 3 years, eventually passed out from Loyola College in Ibadan and thereafter bagged First and Second Degree at the Obafemi Awolowo University and Florida Met. University, USA.

“There was a time when I had to fend for myself. When I was in the secondary school, things weren’t really good, I had to hustle on a Saturdays and Sundays to send myself to school”, the ex NBA star said.

“I left school on Fridays, try to do some odd jobs on Saturdays and Sundays so as to fend for myself because I really wanted to go to school and I also wanted to be useful for myself and my community”, he added.

The Ibadan born basketball veteran, who is a Laureus Global Ambassador, the first Nigerian and third African to be awarded this honour, also owns a foundation that helps the underprivileged and drop-outs to return to school’.
