Why Kada City Withdraw From NNL - Ekene Adams

The chairman, Kada City, Ekene Abubakar Adams has said his club is pulling out of Nigeria’s second tier league, Nigeria National League (NNL) due to the lack of financial fair play.

In a letter written directed to the NNL board, Adams revealed that lack of sponsors also played a major part in his decision to pull out.

“Reason for my withdrawal are the lack of financial fair play in the league, lack of sponsors and also financial constraints on me as a private owner. The lack of conducive environment for investors which makes it a risk to continue investing,” he said.

He further lampooned the NNL board for their lack of vision in running the league.

“The lack of financial fair play in the league affects the strength of the privately owned participating teams.

“The management of the league boards lacks vision and capacity to improve me as an investor putting my investment at a risk and team alongside so many more complains that can’t be mentioned.

“The league has been decided before the commencement of the league giving the rest an undue advantage,” he said.

It will be recalled that Adams sold his club’s Premier League spot to Delta state Government attributing it to lack of financial muscle to cope with the financial demand of running a club in the topflight during the 2018/18 league season.

At the point of selling the slot, he said not having enough time to prepare his side beyond the technical side was one he couldn’t recover from and since he couldn’t secure necessary fund unlike Government owned clubs, there is a limit to which he can truly run the club in the topflight.

“We must see this from a business angle, majority of the clubs in Nigeria doesn’t see this from a business angle because they just see it as avenue to satisfy some people’s interest,” he said.
