Why Lagos Wins Rising Stars U17 Girls Basketball Championship - Head Coach By Niyi Busari Lagos State U17 Girls Basketball team Coach, Christopher Okoh said many basketball academies in Lagos was the reason behind their exceptional performance in the just concluded Southwest Rising Stars U17 Girls Basketball Championship. Lagos won all their five matches in the round-robin tournament to emerge champions after beating Ogun (63-55) in the final on Thursday. Elated Okoh while speaking with BSN Sports said; "I feel excited, I'm happy and glad, I give glory to God but I'm not satisfied. "One thing you should understand is that Lagos state has an edge over all other states because Lagos has more basketball academies than any other states in the south-west and that is where we got all these girls from. He stated that the final is the toughest they played in the competition. "The Ogun state team that played the final were the toughest because the team has been together for a very long time and they have cohesion, they understand themselves more than any other team in this competition. He, however gave kudos to Olumide Oyedeji, the organiser of the tournament. "This is the first female competition I'm seeing this year and it is well organised. So, kudos to him ( Olumide Oyedeji) he has been a mastermind of this, with this he might be thinking of having a female team and I'm in support of that so that we can enjoy good basketball in Nigeria. "From this competition, we get good national team because all the girls are good. Olumide Oyedeji has a lot of projects, he has been a major man for the development of grassroots basketball and this is another achievement for him. Ogun State U17 Girls Basketball team Coach, Akindele Peter admitted that his lads lost to a better side. "My girls came out and fought hard for it and I'm satified, I have a younger team but I know by next year, we will do better. "The game is about winning and losing so anyone that comes on we keep going I'm okay with it. "We lost to the better side they have big players in the team our players are just coming up. I have an edge over any other team and I know by next we will do better.
