Why LMC Extends Nigerian Leagues Calendar To June - Salihu Abubakar By Niyi Busari The Chief Operating Officer of League Management Company, Malam Salihu Abubakar has said that the adjustment in 2019 African Nation Cup by Confederation of African Football (CAF) which will be hosted by Egypt was responsible for the extension of all domestic competitions' calendar. CAF had in a Congress Egypt in 2018 said that all Members Association's domestic leagues must end before or on May 29th because the 2019 African Nations Cup was scheduled to kick off in the first week of June 2019. However, due to the fact that Ramadan (Islamic fasting month) falls between May and early June 2019, CAF therefore shifts the African Nations Cup by three weeks. In this light, according to him LMC took advantage of that added three weeks to readjust Nigeria leagues calendars. "Fortunately, the date (May 29th) was given to us by CAF because Nations Cup suppose to kick off very early in June and they have moved the competition by 3 weeks (due Islamic fasting month) and that is why we have shifted our calendar," he told www.bsnsports.com.ng.
