Why Nigeria Football Teams Failed in 2019 - Ambassador Ogunfuwa
by Tajudeen Amodu
The National President of Nigeria Football Fans Club, Ambassador Oluwakemi Ogunfuwa has blamed all stakeholders in the Nigeria football fraternity for the downward trend of various national football teams in the outgoing year 2019.
Recall that both male and female national teams missed their chances of qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games while 5 time FIFA U17 World Cup champions, Golden Eaglets recorded a poor outing at the 2019 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, following a scandalous loss in the second round.
The star-studded Super Eagles only had a bronze to show for their participation at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt while Falcons failed to move beyond the second round of the FIFA Women's World Cup even as the Flying Eagles were caged at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup and many more.
Speaking on a monthly personality interactive program on Osun United WhatsApp platform tagged "Newsmaker", the Winner of 2019 Total CAF Fans Award described the failure as an accumulation of professional compromise.
"The failure of Nigeria to me is all encompassing. It boils down on players recruitment, coaches in charge, various agents scouting for our National teams as well as the quality of media reportage. We're all at one time or the other failed to do what is expected of us and I think the result is just accumulation of professional compromise," dropped the Ogun State Born Soccer Lover.
Speaking on Super Falcons poor outing in the outgoing year, Ambassador Ogunfuwa said "the issue of Super Falcons surprised everybody but I think the sudden exit of Coach Thomas Dennerby as the Technical Adviser played a great deal of disservice and the change of Falcons' Captainship. You would recall that the exchange of captains armband in every team or even clubsides is very sensitive. We're not happy that our football teams are not going to Olympics but I think we will build on that to improve on the subsequent ones."
Ambassador Ogunfuwa, who is also a member of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) reeled out several achievements of the Nigeria Football Fans Club (NFFC) to include welfare support to both the serving and ex-internationals, supporting of all categories of national teams, assisting the needy and many more.
She maintained that NFFC operates on more distinct programs than other football supporters clubs in Nigeria, adding that membership is open to adults in every state of the federation.
