Why NPFL Players Do Not Attract Big Clubs In Europe - Finidi George

Former Super Eagles winger, Finidi George has said that the Nigeria Professional Football League is no longer competitive unlike when he was playing in the League in the early 90's, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

George Finidi moved from Sharks FC of Port Harcourt, River state to Ajax Amsterdam in Holland went straight into the First team of the one best European team at that time.

The former Real Betis of Spain winger said the standard of the NPFL is so low and that affect the player making it difficult for the to cope with the higher standard in Europe.

"The Nigerian league is not that competitive any longer, the level have dropped and when players from league find themselves in Europe and see that the standard is higher than what they are used to. They found it difficult to cope. I think that is the major problem, most of our players are having in Europe." Finidi told BSN Sports.

George along Kanu Nwaknwo are first two Nigerian players to win the Uefa Champions League expressed interests in coaching Nigerian national teams bringing his experience garnered in Europe to take the country where it ought to be in the world football map.

"Of course, nobody works for free. When i said i can work for free by coaching Nigeria national team, i mean, i am not going to ask for much money and we want to come back and give our experience that we have gathered all these years in Europe and while playing international games.

"However, nobody does anything for free these days. Despite the fact that Nigeria is my country, i would not want to bother anybody asking for lots of money, we just want to have the job done.

We have been praying that we can bring back Nigerian football to where it belongs.
