Why We Did Not Attend Isaac Promise Burial - NFF
By Niyi Busari
The Nigeria Football Federation has said that the family of the former Flying Eagle captain, Isaac Promise were responsible for the their absence at the burial of the ex-international, BSNSports.com.ng can report.
The former Nigeria international was buried last week in Imo state and no representative of the federation was in attendance. Football followers around the globe were not happy about the situation and blamed the federation for sending at least a representative at the venue.
Reacting to the Nigerians who felt the NFF has not done well by not paying the late Isaac Promise the last respect, in a press statement, the federation explained that Isaac Promise family expected the NFF to foot the entire burial rites' bills but because they couldn't, Promise's family kept the burial arrangement details away from them.
“The NFF has been in regular contact with, and has offered support to late Isaac Promise’s wife and children. When the player died in the United States of America, the NFF immediately contacted the club and we were assured of the responsibilities of the club, which included flying his remains to Nigeria.
“However, some of his siblings outrightly expected the NFF to foot the entire bill of his burial, which we told them was not possible. The NFF offered to foot part of the bill for the burial but from that moment, they were not happy with the Federation.”
